Year 2 Evaluation of the PRO Neighborhoods Purple Line Collaborative

In 2019, the Purple Line Equitable Transit-Oriented Development Collaborative received a JPMorgan Chase PRO Neighborhoods award to support equitable development in the communities surrounding the proposed Purple Line light rail line, which will extend from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince George’s County and connect the Maryland sides of the Green, Red and Orange lines. After the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in year 1 of the grant, the Purple Line Collaborative was able to make substantial progress in year 2, meeting or exceeding several goals for preserving and expanding small businesses and affordable housing in the Purple Line corridor. Successes such as the Montgomery County Housing Partnership development and assisting small business owners in accessing capital, as highlighted in this report, are important indicators of the work’s impact.
